June 25, 2021: after completing six circumnavigations, including one against winds and currents, and rounding Cape Horn twelve times, Jean-Luc Van Den Heede sends a final message on his official website:
"Hello, I will stop my activities as a professional skipper and close my company on June 30. Sending messages will, therefore, no longer have any reason to exist and this will be my last one (...) I take advantage of my retirement as a racer to thank all those who have followed me for so long and of which you are naturally part. However, I am not abandoning the sea which is, as you know, my other vital space. I will continue to sail aboard my After 8 and we may have the opportunity to cross paths in stopovers here or there! "
